Are you ready to start?

Are you ready to start writing? The month of October — and the KidLitWriMo writing challenge — begin next Wednesday, so I’ve opened up the private KidLitWriMo Facebook group (and added all of the “early birds” to the group).

Q. How does it work?
A. Write 30 minutes a day for 30 days in October and post your writing time in our private Facebook Group.

Q. How can I join?
A. Log in to Facebook and click the blue Join group button on the upper right. Then agree to our 3 group rules:

1. Tally your writing time
Post a tally of your daily writing time in October.

2. No hate speech or bullying.
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn’t allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.

3. No promotions or spam
Give more than you take in this group. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren’t allowed.

In the past whenever I started a NEW group, Facebook would only allow me to add you if were we already connected. If you and I are not connected yet, please visit my Facebook profile and connect. (You can’t join the group from a page, it only allows profiles.)

Q. What is the goal?
A. The goal is to tally your daily writing during the month of October. If you write 30 minutes a day for 30 days, you will have spent 15 hours writing your book!

Q. When can I start?
A. Now. I will add all of the people who ask to join the group and agree to follow the rules. Then Facebook will send each person a message saying that they are now a member of the KidLitWriMo group.

Once you are in the group, you can begin your daily writing tally. Or you can wait until the official start on October 1. I look forward to writing with you!

@ Amazon | Bookshop

Booktalk: High up in the Andes mountains of Peru, agricultural scientist Alberto Salas is on a quest. A quest… for potatoes.

Up and down the Andes mountains he goes, playing an epic game of paka paka con la papa, potato hide and seek. These potatoes are special: they have the power to feed the world.

Alberto doesn’t have a second to waste. The climate is changing and Alberto must find each and every one to save them before they go extinct.

The illustrator, Juana Martinez-Neal, is one of my former students.
