KidlitWriMo is coming

NaNoWriMo is no more, but I liked having a yearly group writing challenge, so I’ve created KidLitWriMo, a 30 for 30 writing challenge for #kidlit writers.

I always had to adapt NaNoWriMo’s 50K word count goal because most of the children’s books I write aren’t that long. That’s why this challenge will be counting time, not words.

Q. How does it work?
A. Write 30 minutes a day for 30 days in October and post your writing time in our private Facebook Group. To find out more, visit the KidLitWriMo FAQ page.

Happy Birthday to You!

Happy Birthday to You!: The Sisters Who Wrote the Most Famous Song in the World
by Rachelle Burk (Author) and Abigail Lashbrook (Illustrator)

Booktalk: Patty and Mildred Hill are the most famous composers you’ve never heard of. They came up with “Happy Birthday to You!” in an effort to make something all children could easily sing. They ended up with a tune the whole world loved.

“Happy Birthday to You!” has been sung to presidents and kings, on big stages and in outer space. And it all started in a kindergarten classroom with a teacher coaxing her children to sing an easy tune all together.

The author, Rachelle Burk, is one of my former students.
