Kamik Joins the Pack

Kamik Joins the Pack
by Darryl Baker (Author) and Qin Leng (Illustrator)

Booktalk: Jake can’t wait for his uncle to meet Kamik, and to see what an obedient puppy he is becoming. Jake’s uncle is a great musher, who has won many dog sledding races, and if Kamik is good enough, Jake hopes today might be the day that Kamik finally gets to run with a dog team!

Snippet: Jake’s uncle put a hand on his shoulder. “You dont need to learn everything all at once,” he said with a smile. “You can learn alongside your dogs.

“When I was your age, I had five dogs. They did not know how to pull a sled, but one day I harnessed them and tried to ride around town. The dogs would not pull the sled, so I had to get off and walk with them most of the way home. I was sweating from pulling my dogs along, even though it was the middle of winter.”
