TWO 2026 #kidlit Awards!

The 2026 Youth Media Awards were announced in Chicago yesterday and I am very happy to say that TWO former students won awards!

Wanda Hears the Stars: A Blind Astronomer Listens to the Universe written by former student Amy S. Hansen (shared on the blog on September 29) won the Schneider Family Book Award.

Alberto Salas Plays Paka Paka con la Papa: Join the Quest with Peru’s Famed Scientist and Potato Expert illustrated by former student Juana Martinez-Neal (shared on the blog on September 24) won the Sibert Medal.

2026 Youth Media Awards

Save the date! The 2026 Youth Media Awards will be held on Monday, January 26 beginning at 10 a.m. CT. The announcement will take place at the Hilton Chicago hotel (720 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605). The event will be free and open to the public, but registration will be required for in-person attendance. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, January 21.

The announcement will also be live streamed at ala.unikron.com and on the ALA Facebook page. No registration is required to view the livestream. To see a list of all of the awards, visit the ALA Youth Media Awards page.
