Families Write with Spencer’s New Pet

Amazon | Bookshop | IndieBound

Spencer’s New Pet
by Jessie Sima (Author / Illustrator)

Booktalk: When Spencer gets a new pet, he’s excited to do all the things that pets do–taking walks in the park, going to the vet, and attending parties together.

There’s just one hitch: Spencer’s new pet is a balloon.

And that means No. Sharp. Objects.

Step 1. Read aloud
Listen to the author’s read-aloud video.

Step 2. Think aloud
Talk about the book. What would happen if you decided to make a party balloon into a pet? Would you like to write and draw a story –like a silent film– without any words? What did you think about the surprise at the end of the story?

Step 3. Write it down
Write your own story with a surprise ending.
