To support my writers (of all ages) I’m starting a new Families Write series using a read-aloud as a writing prompt.
Step 1. Read aloud
Listen to the author’s read-aloud video.
Step 2. Think aloud
Talk about the book. How do you feel about it? Did it remind you of a story from your own life? Did it give you an idea for a new story?
Step 3. Write it down
Now write your own story.
If you want to add art, use these directions from author (and librarian) Celia C. Pérez to fold and cut a single sheet of paper into an 8-page mini-comic (called a zine).
