In 1999, my picture book Man on the Moon was on the Florida Reading Association Children’s Book Award reading list.
In almost every state in the United States, teachers and librarians assemble a best books list each year for students to read. In many of these states, the students vote for their favorite book on the list.
To allow every child in the state to read and vote, classrooms and libraries order multiple copies of each title. It usually takes 2 years for a book to be added to a state list, so the books on these lists will probably be available at your local library.
Begin with your state and then look at the states near you. You will find that some books are on lists in state after state. Move those titles to the top of your TBR (to be read) list so you can see why librarians and teachers find them so appealing!
